Walking is considered the easiest and most common form of exercise. So much so that you may not even know at the time that you are indeed burning calories and getting in an optimal healthy workout. This is especially a recommended workout to those with knee, back and ankle problems, as it is considered lower impact and can be done for a longer period of time.
The benefits of walking are so underrated, yet so many individuals are indeed aided by it! Let's start off easy with the physical benefits; fitness, cardiac health, alleviating depression and fatigue, weight loss, improvement of one's mood, it can even lower your risk for cancer and chronic disease. WOW! And not only that, let's tap into the mental benefits: walking can increase creative output (hello my artists!) which is also known as divergent thinking - i.e. generating ideas to explore many possible solutions - so basically it allows your mind to wander, which is a good thing! Gathering your thoughts subconsciously can lower your levels of anxiety, can improve your imagination and gives you the opportunity to sift through your problems and troubles. Yay!
But now you may think that you do walk often and it doesn't do anything for you? Or you don't think you are able to walk the 'recommended 10 000' steps a day. Honey, YOU DO YOU! Next time you are walking, try listening to your favourite song, try observing your surroundings, try to get to know yourself better, have a meditative walk. Love yourself enough to want to give your body the movement it needs. So about this whole 10 000 steps thing, how about we start off with 5 000 steps? build it up from there and challenge yourself! You don't have to just wander around the streets aimlessly, walk your dog, walk with a friend, sweep the floor (yes baby those steps do count), go for a hike, go shopping, just get some oxygen pumping! It really is as easy as that. Join me on my journey; walk with me. Start small and grow from there. Feel free to share your steps with me. I challenge you to do 3000 steps, to do 5000 steps, to do 10 000 steps. Do it for yourself, you might just inspire the next person.
Keep going, Keep glowing, keep growing. You're doing amazing.
