All Things Skincare Routines

Now that the majority of all things skincare in terms of products have been determined, the next step is just that; the next step. In other words the order of applying your skincare steps. For some it’s super easy, face wash and moisturizer, however as soon as toners, eye creams, scrubs, serums, masks, oils, and double-cleansing comes into play, it becomes more tricky. There’s no exact science when it comes to application, however, some products might allow others to absorb better or on the other hand, some might cancel out other products. For example, a serum is best applied to a damp face, so would work best after a mask or regular face wash being washed off. Some toners might also aid in dampening the face so a serum could be applied after that as well. A moisturizer on the other hand acts as a barrier, so it seals products into the skin, therefore anything meant to penetrate the skin after applying a moisturizer would just be a waste of a product.

The other thing about skincare routines is that they can vary from a 3 step application all the way to a 15 step application! They can be different in the morning, versus at night or even season dependent. So let us start off small and basic and build our way up

3 Step routine

  1. Face Wash

  2. Moisturizer

  3. SPF/sunscreen (morning only, and yes even if you are indoors)

7 Step Routine

You don’t need to use all the products listed here, it’s just a manner of explaining which products come before and after which

  1. Face Wash

  2. Toner

  3. Serum

  4. Eye cream

  5. Moisturizer

  6. Lip cream

  7. SPF (morning only)

15 Step Routine

  1. Balm/Oil cleanser (makeup remover)

  2. Face wash (for double cleansing. The 1st one removes makeup/sweat/sunscreen, while the 2nd one cleanse the skin)

  3. Scrub/exfoliator (only use 2-3 times a week)

  4. Mask 1 (a clay mask or a peel mask)

  5. Mask 2 (a sheet mask, hydrating mask or nourishing mask)

  6. Toner

  7. Spot treatment

  8. Serum

  9. Massage tool (jade roller, gua sha)

  10. Eye mask

  11. Eye cream

  12. Moisturizer

  13. Face oil

  14. SPF (morning only)

  15. Face Spritz

Again all these products are not needed but are a guide to which application process works best. The last two routines are basic every day and night routines, also mostly the ones I follow.

Morning

  1. Face Wash/Cleanser

  2. Toner

  3. Serum

  4. Eye cream

  5. Moisturizer

  6. Face oil

  7. SPF

Evening

  1. Makeup remover

  2. Face wash/cleanser

  3. Toner/essence

  4. Serum

  5. Eye cream

  6. Retinol/Spot treatment

  7. Moisturizer

  8. Face oil

Tip: never use Vitamin C and retinol together, they cancel each other out.

So there you have it my lovelies, skincare made easy! Look after yourselves and your skin, you might just inspire the next person to do the same.
